Gabriele Silli (Rome, 1982) graduated in Philosophy from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 2009.
His works reflect on matter and its possible transformations. They are composed of different materials such as algae, sponges, iron, wood, tea bags, resins, glues, acid-treated paper, scraps of leather which, together, give life to new shapes and material bodies resulting from temporal transformation and natural evolution of materials.
His work has been exhibited in public and private spaces including: MACRO, Rome; GAM – Modern Art Gallery of Rome, American Academy of Rome, Baruchello Foundation, There is no place like home - Rome, Post-tourism - Post Ex Roma; Mazzoli Gallery, Modena - Berlin; Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris; Museo del Novecento, Milan; PAC-Pavilion of Contemporary Art, Milan; Street Farini/DOCVA, Milan; OCAT, Shanghai; Villa Croce Museum, Genoa; Baruchello Foundation, Rome; Aaran Art Gallery, Tehran.
Among his solo exhibitions we remember: Anticipazione della fine, Galerie Mazzoli, Berlin 2022; Del mero essere, Giorgio Galotti Gallery, Turin 2019; Esercizi di Accanimento Ottativo-Digitali, Federica Schiavo Gallery, Rome 2014; Forms of the Rock in a night-hymn, Galleria Otto Zoo, Milan 2011.
Since 2004 he has been part of the artistic collective MASTEQUOIA with Giacomo Sponzilli and Carlo Gabriele Tribbioli. In 2008 he was in residence at 'The Italian Cultural Institute' in Budapest and in 2012 (with MASTEQUOIA) he won the “Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival of Florence” award. In 2019 he carried out a residency in Iraq as part of the A Season in Slemani project. In 2021 he was the protagonist of the film King Crab by Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis, presented at the “Directors' Fortnight” in Cannes and in 2022 he was the co-star of Bassifondi film directed by Trash Secco (Francesco Pividori), premiered at the Festival of the Cinema of Rome. Some of his works appear in the film as part of the set design.
